FAQ overview

If I fail a class or get an "N" grade, what can I do to fix the problem?

You can repeat the course. However, you may not have the opportunity to repeat the course (also called duplicating) until a few terms later. In the meantime you might be placed on probation or required to withdraw.

But if I'm on probation it takes quite a while before I get kicked out of the University, right?

Wrong. There is very little time to recover from being on probation before you might be required to withdraw. It is not easy to gain re-entry to the University. The best approach is to manage your course load so that you do not get into this predicament in the first place. For further information on probation please refer to the SFU Calendar.

How many repeats am I allowed?

You need to be careful about repeating classes. You are allowed a maximum of five repeats in your entire degree. This regulation is strictly enforced in the Faculty of Health Sciences. Further, more than one repeat of a specific class is not allowed unless you are given special permission by the department involved.
